If I Am Interested in TRUTH ?
Of the information you receive, do you ever question its credibility? Are you quite sure it is true? Are you confident in the information to repeat it without fear of it being wrong? What are some of the ways to make certain of our discernment between truth and error?
1. Do I have an exalted and respected view of God (Malachi 1:6-14)?
2. Do I have a highly reverent view of scripture as the inspired word of God (Isaiah 55:8,9)?
3. Do I see scripture as authoritative, inerrant, and sufficient (2 Timothy 3:16,17)?
4. Do I believe there is no need to add to or take away from scripture (Revelation 22:18-19)?
5. Do I have an exalted view of Jesus Christ as the sinless Son of God (Isaiah 9:6; John 8:24; 10:33)?
6. Is the gospel correctly viewed in my mind as unchanging (James 1:25)?
7. Is the subject under consideration approached culturally or biblically (Romans 1:18-32)?
8. Do I believe the greatest need of man involves spiritual restoration or self-recovery and self-esteem (Romans 7:15-25)?
9. Do I believe the Bible addresses themes of sin, the wrath of God, and presents Jesus as the only way toward salvation, or does the Bible skip or avoid these subjects (John 14:6; Romans 2:4-11; 1 John 3:4)?
10. Is the gospel the modern plan of salvation as well as the ancient plan of salvation (Romans 1:16)?
11. Am I dependent upon a person or small group of enlightened people to tell you what you need to know to please God (Galatians 1:10-12; Hebrews 11:6)?
12. Do I believe biblical doctrine is consistent with “the faith that was once delivered to the saints” or is something “new” needed and added to make it true/law (Galatians 1:6-9)?
13. Do I believe the Bible is hard to understand or it is capable of answering all of life’s greatest challenges and struggles (1 Corinthians 2:10-16; Ephesians 3:3,4; 5:17; 2 Peter 1:3,4)
14. Is the lifestyle of the one teaching upon a particular biblical subject consistent with or contrary to scripture (Matthew 6:1; Luke 12:1,2; 1 Corinthians 4:14-17; 2 Corinthians 4:7)?
15. Do I hold everything you read and hear up to the scripture (Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 3:15)?
16. Is it important to you to be in the company of godly people who are able to discern between what is true and false (2 Timothy 2:24-26; 3:5,10; Hebrews 5:12-14)?
17. Am I someone who is humble to learn or have I achieved full knowledge of any and all subjects which matter (Jeremiah 10:23; Philippians 3:12-14; 2 Peter 3:18)?
18. If I find the TRUTH and have believed a lie, am I willing to forsake the like then seek and obey the TRUTH (John 8:32)?
