CRAVINGS: Good or Evil

CRAVINGS:  Good or Evil

“One thing that I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after;  that I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life…”  -  Psalms 27:4

How do you know if your craving is noble and holy or corrupt and evil?  Is it a strong desire for Satan or for God?  It is not a complicated process.  It is truly wise to consider your focus, your strength, and its impending consequences...

If you check your focus, it will tell you if you are headed in the wrong direction. Therefore, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23). What actions will your desire lead you to say or do? Does this action have the chance of consuming you? Are these actions and words right or wrong according to God’s will in scripture? From your response to those questions, you may need to change your path…

How strong is your focus?  Proverbs 4:25 says, “Let thine eyes look RIGHT ON, and let thine eyelids LOOK STRAIGHT before thee”. The strength of our focus determines the length of our focus. If God gave a command, would you be hindered by anything to obey Him?  If a lust pulled at you, would you find a way to cross every barrier God placed in your way? Have others counseled you against this action? Would you be sacrificing your spiritual life? Are you avoiding people to do what it is you want? Your actions may have enough strength to harm you or help you and others…

What will be the consequences of your behavior? We know the way of the transgressor is hard (Proverbs 13:15). We also know those who keep the law of Christ will be blessed (Romans 8:5,6; James 1:25).   Who will be affected if you fulfill the craving in your heart?  Will it be a “one time” craving you just want to try and see what it is like?  Will it only be a “one time” chance or the beginning of a lifelong plague? What biblical justification do you have for bringing these consequences into your life? Will you be destroyed or exhorted from what you crave? Will these desires bringing you closer to God or do you care less about the impact of your actions. “Be not deceived. God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7).
